About birch trees
Birch trees are refreshingly tall, snow-white, and have earned the nickname “queen of the forest” due to romantic images of pristine mountain streams and winter nights. Their white bark, which can be preserved for over a thousand years, peels into layers thinner than ten, which were used as “paper” in ancient times. Their roots, sap, and even fungi living on these trees were often used for medicinal purposes.
In spring, before the leaves sprout, the “white sap” is collected by drilling a small hole; it has a slightly sweet taste and is rich in NMF (Natural Moisturising Factor, a cocktail of ingredients that naturally maintain the hydration of the stratum corneum. These include amino acids, lactic acid, pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA) and hyaluronic acid).
